Paul Kaplan grew up being influenced by the diversity of experiences and people in southern California. Whether it was drawing, painting, sports, surfing or traveling each experience helped shaped his personal narrative. He studied sociology, anthropology and visual arts at the University of California at San Diego under internationally renowned professors including Eleanor Antin, Kim MacConnel, Faith Ringgold, Italo Scanga and Roman De Salvo. Kaplan’s education and training has helped him develop a style that infuses traditional methods with intense and vivid colors, exaggeration in the appearance with loose light brushstrokes.
Working primarily with acrylic, ink and spray paint, he continues to explore a multitude of human and societal emotions through his expressionistic style of painting. Kaplan continues to travel broadly exploring different cultures. He lives and works in San Diego, California where he also teaches art History.
