Elisa Valerio

Born in Cárdenas Matanzas, Cuba 1945

Studied Painting and Design, La Habana University, Cuba

Registered and Practicing Nurse in both Cuba and the United States

Valerio’s talent and love for painting developed early at the age of five years old as she painted portraits of her sisters and the gardens around her home in Cuba.  Her path in life took her away from painting and she chose a degree in science to become a nurse and help her local community.  Although she enjoyed working with patients, her creative side never stopped calling to her and at the age of 27 years old she returned to school to study painting.

Valerio’s instructors included some of the most influential Cuban artists of their time including Andrés Valerio,
Dionisio Rene. Luis Cernuda, Carlos Trillo.  After her graduation, she married Andres Valerio and worked alongside him as his mentee and advancing her craft while raising their own family.  In 1980, the family became residents of the United States.

In 2013, Valerio began dedicating herself full-time to her art and launched her solo career with national and international exhibits and she was commissioned by Oceania Cruises for several paintings.  Valerio describes her work as “satirical beauty” and continues to paint from her home in Florida with collectors in Europe, Latin America, and the United States.
